Since President Donald Trump’s election and the start of the 85th Texas Legislature, Austin has seen several protests, rallies and lobbying days at or near the Texas State Capitol.
On Nov. 9, the day after the presidential election, multiple protests occurred on the streets of downtown Austin, expressing disapproval of the new commander-in-chief.
In January, after Trump’s inauguration there were several protests around the Texas Capitol and University of Texas with thousands of demonstrators.
The Women’s March on Jan. 21 saw close to 50,000 people gathered at the Capitol.
At the end of January, thousands gathered for Texas Muslim Capitol Day.

In early February, hundreds went to the Capitol to testify and protest against abortion restrictions in Senate Bill 4.
Most recently, on Feb. 16, there was the “Day Without Immigrants” boycott that saw many restaurants close for the day and hundred march downtown.
In the coming weeks, there are several more large demonstrations planned to take place in downtown Austin.
Saturday, Feb. 18: Rise up Texas Action Event
When? 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Where? The University of Texas Club— 2108 Robert Dedman Dr.
This event is aimed at getting people active and involved in their communities. “Let’s make Hillary Clinton and all of the women and men who fought before us proud— join forces, meet other people who are not ready to give up on our freedom, on our equality, on our basic human rights,” says their website.
This event consists of workshops, panels and talks from various activists. On Facebook, close to 400 people have RSVPd and more than 4,000 are “interested.”
Monday, Feb. 20: Not my President’s day rally
When? Noon – 3 p.m.
Where? Texas State Capitol
On President’s Day, this event says it will honor previous presidents by exercising their constitutional right to assemble and peacefully protest again President Trump and everything that he represents.
On the Facebook event page, nearly 200 people have RSVPd and more than 1,600 are “interested.”
Thursday, Feb. 23: Vigil for immigrant families
When? 6:30 p.m.- 8:30 p.m.
Where? Texas State Capitol
Immigrants United, a nonprofit organization that works with the immigrant community, is holding a vigil at the Texas Capitol. “As parents, taxpayers and hardworking people, we make Texas better… stand in solidarity with us at this candlelight vigil,” says the Facebook event page, where nearly 200 people have RSVPd and 1,000 are “interested.”

Saturday, Feb. 25: No Ban, No Wall rally
When? 2 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Where? Texas State Capitol
This event aims to bring awareness to the struggles of immigrants and refugees in Texas, according to the Facebook event page. Demonstrators will meet at the south side of the Capitol on Saturday afternoon.
More than 9,600 people have RSVPd and 33,000 are “interested.”
Tuesday, Feb. 28: We are all Texas: Day of action for immigrant and refugee rights
When? 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Where? Texas State Capitol
This event, hosted by Reform Immigration for Texas Alliance (RITA) said they hope to stop the hate, xenophobia and nativism from taking a hold in Texas. After marching and rally at the Capitol, they will visit the Legislature.
On the Facebook event page, almost 2,000 people have RSVPd and 12,000 are “interested.”
Saturday, March 4: March 4 Trump
When? 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Where? Texas State Capitol
March 4 Trump is a nationwide event that will take place the same day and time in several states — Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
For the Capitol march, 300 people have RSVPd on the Facebook event page and 1,000 are “interested”. “Let’s support our president and stop the hate!” the event page says.
Monday, March 6: Trans Texan Lobby Day 2017
When? 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Where? Texas State Capitol
The Transgender Education Network of Texas is hosting this event that brings together transgender Texans, allies, family and friends. To attend this event, you must register ahead of time.
On the Facebook event page, about 100 people have RSVPd and 700 are “interested.”
